LyAnne (Joyce) Polk |
My name is Kim McDonald. I reside in McDonough, which is in Henry
County. This will be the second year I will be serving my elementary
school as the Media Specialist. If you were to meet me, you would say
no way is she the "librarian", she is to outgoing and exuberant; some
may even call me loud. I have been teaching for nine years. I have
taught Kindergarten, first grade, and EIP (Early Intervention Program).
I have taught at the same school for eight years. Last summer, 2014, I
began obtaining my Master's degree in Instructional technology, Media
Specialist. I am also excited about this school year, because I sit on our school's
Personalized Learning redesign team. Our elementary school received a
grant last spring, as part of our county's "20/20 Vision for
Personalized Learning." The goal of the county is that all schools in
the system will personalize learning for all students by the school year
2020. This has been a very exciting endeavor. I have had the
opportunity to visit innovative schools across the country to see how
they are personalizing learning for their students, and engaging
students in inquiry based learning opportunities. The school library is
transitioning from a room that houses books to a learning hub within
the school. The media center has become the biggest classroom in the
school, with the most resources. This year my students will be engaged
in inquiry based learning and Makerspace learning opportunities within
the media center.
Melisa EicheleHello, my name is Melisa Eichele. I am a substitute teacher for the
Fulton County school district and I am a Georgia Southern Student. I am
currently working on my M.Ed with a dual certification in Instructional
Technology and Media Specialist. My academic goal is to obtain my Ed.S.
in Instructional Technology. In my previous teaching experience I taught
in an inclusional 5th grade classroom. Technology was a very important
tool in creating specialized assignments for a diverse classroom. I
think technology is important in education and I think technology will
become a large part of our future education system. I would like to
obtain my Ed.S. degree and become a technology lead or a Media
Specialist in an elementary school. I would like to integrate technology
into a school and guide the teachers in using technology to reach every
child. I believe that literacy and reading is the backbone to all
academics. Right now my daughters are in the 6th grade and the 3rd grade an the
on-line degree program is perfect for me. I am an active volunteer and a
regular substitute.

My name is Joyce Polk, but I have always gone by my middle name,
LyAnne. I received my
undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education from GSU. I am
currently working toward my Masters Degree in Instructional Technology,
Media Specialist. Being a faithful small-town girl, I continue to live only 5 miles
from my childhood home with my husband and three children.
Interestingly enough, my entire teaching career has been in the same
schools I grew up in as well. I began my teaching career at Bryan
County Elementary in 2002. I started out as a third grade teacher and
eventually moved to fourth grade, which is my current teaching position.
Our current media specialist plans to retire within the next couple of
years, and I hope to fill her shoes!
